I am a Teacher.
Whether history or writing, the key to learning is the story.
After fifteen years in the classroom, I can tell you no kid ever learnt anything he didn’t care about. The hardest–and most important–thing for a teacher to do is find the heart in the story and invite the kids to care. All my classes begin with this in mind: that it is through the stories we tell that we learn who we are, and it is from the stories of the great women and men of the past that we learn to be better versions of ourselves.
I teach logic, rhetoric, poetics, history, and writing, but they all come from and return to the same thing: we are children of a creator, and he made us to hear him in stories.
Currently teaching at:
- Liahona Preparatory Academy, Pleasant Grove, UT (many distance-education/online options)
- Mount Liberty College, Provo, UT (some online options available)
- Education Underground, which started as a side gig and now, oh, doctor. Writing workshops, history class, all sorts of things.
In case it matters: Mr. C graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Classics (Roman History) and minors in English and History. In September 2025 he’ll graduate from Mount Liberty College with a Master’s in Classical Literature and Socratic Pedagogy.
