Medieval and Renaissance Europe: The not-so-dark ages
Start Date: 09/05/2025 | End Date: 05/01/2026
Location:
Rome has fallen. The dark ages have begun. Everything sucks crap through a narrow tube for the next 1000 years.
Oh, come on. That’s just silly.
You know, there were some kind of interesting things happening before Columbus. Even in Europe.
Vikings: You like raiding? Pillaging? Thor and Odin and Freya, oh my? This is your lucky class! But did you further know that we have Norse traders all the way into Ukraine? And there’s more. Just wait.
King Arthur: it’s not just mythology–okay, it’s also mythology–but Arthur is one of the most discussed and debated and performed stories in all of western canon. The question everyone wants the answer to is…was Arthur REAL? I have an answer. If you’re in class, so will you.
Popes and Priests and Inquisitions: You know all that guff about burning witches (which did not happen in America, not even in Salem)? Some of it happened in Europe. But a lot more people got burned for other things than having a warty nose. Like calling the Pope a fat lard (the guy did have a point).
You like history? We got history. How about languages? Oh, baby. Plays? Literature? Architecture? Epic tales? Politics? Heroes? Villains? We have all of it, right down to murdered by pirates.
Every sixth Friday, 11am to 2pm at a currently undisclosed location in the Boise area and online 11-1 every other week–24(!) total classes plus reading, writing, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Cost:$425 for the full year (yes, that’s less than last year)–but if you bring a friend, your cost drops to a ridiculous $325–and so does your friend’s! I know, I know. It’s stupid cheap. Practically free. I’m almost paying you. Take advantage of my lunacy before I recover my wits.
Class begins September 5! All classes, regardless of location, will be broadcast on the Mr. C Official Network (MCON), so you can take the class from Timbuktu, if you like. Yes, that’s a real place, and I’m dying to see it one day, but right now Mali is, um, sketch. Still. You can watch and rewatch anytime anywhere this year!
